“It’s funny how men are brave enough to go to war, wrestle inside metal cages, or climb the peaks of isolated mountains, but shudder at the thought of visiting a urologist. Let’s face it, men are somehow cowards. Women, on the other hand, have no problem casually discussing with their gals their experience at the GYN office. But men; Oh boy! I don’t ever recall hearing a guy enthusiastically mentioning the fact that he had an appointment with a urologist. You never hear that. Not over lunch. Not even in the gym’s changing room. If men and women are from different planets.”

This blog is simply planet ‘Males’. This blog is designed to educate men concerning men’s health issues, namely sexuality and fertility. If you are having difficulty getting your wife pregnant, or if things in the bedroom aren’t as before, or if you simply want to improve your reproductive health, then this blog is your key to regaining your fit back.

My name is Hussein Kandil MBBCh, FACS, MBA. I am a fellowship trained urologist, specializing in male sexual and reproductive health, practicing in the heart of the Emirati capital; Abu Dhabi. After my urologic residency training, I specialized in Andrology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I am a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and I hold an MBA degree with distinction from the University of Strathclyde. Currently I am running the male reproductive and sexual disorders unit at Fakih IVF Fertility Center in Abu Dhabi. For those who don’t know, Andrology is the field of urology that manages the various forms of male reproductive and sexual disorders.

In my practice I encounter men complaining about diverse men’s health issues. They address their concerns with an overwhelming sense of anxiety, agony, and fear. Apparently men are more apprehensive and shy when dealing with such private matters than women. Their journey usually starts by seeking answers through indirect means. Dr. Google is always their first resort. Some even create fake identities and surf the medical blogs for answers. It’s always the same: “Well, a friend of mine is complaining of …” as they’re trying not to get caught. As if it’s a crime to ask a question.

As a result, they get exposed to complex and misleading information, unclear management plans, and even faulty remedies and counseling. It is this shyness and self-imposed guilt that causes men to receive late medical support and delayed initiation of the proper treatment. Believe me, I’m not against web browsing and seeking online information. If I was, I wouldn’t be running this blog. But I have to stress that this should be done with caution and under the guidance of authentic and trustworthy resources.

In this blog I’ll do my best to offer this guidance, and provide simplified and accurate information that can be understood by non-medical professionals. I’ll be excited to discuss any desired topic based on your requests. I like to be interactive in my approach so everyone is encouraged to share his/her opinions, inquiries, and requests for further elaborations on seemingly complex information. Of course I’ll be open to any comment or criticism regarding anything I write.

That all being said, I have to abide with the respectful law of medicine, that is I can’t discuss personal medical conditions online. A patient must see a doctor in his/her office and not behind screens.

Men’s health has become a trendy field of medicine, with the growing scale of ailments affecting the male population, and hence, every man is at stake. It remains crucial to seek proper education and proper counseling.
